Eshet Children

Eshet Children and YouthDevelopment Organization (ECYDO)

ECYDO has been implementing peace-building projects in Oromia, Arsi Zone for the
last 5 years with the financial and technical support of the European Union through Civil Society Fund III and USAID. The projects aim to promote peacebuilding and coexistence among diverse community members, including young men and women, using a bottom-up approach. This approach puts the central role of the projects to grass-root players, allowing more tailored and close dialogue among various indigenous groups, between generations, genders, cultures, and conflicting parties.

To ensure that community members have the capacity to conduct project activities, they will receive training on peacebuilding, conflict resolution, democracy and rule of law, active citizenship, gender equality, women’s participation, identity, life skills, project cycle management, planning, monitoring and evaluation, and resource mobilization.
The projects also plan to create closer cooperation with local stakeholders such as governmental offices, schools and universities, NGOs, and media through tailored advocacy activities that will enhance their accountability and increase their involvement in the projects. The projects also mainstream cross-cutting issues such as democracy education and promotion to provide people with the capacity to appreciate the rule of law and democratic decision-making mechanisms. Respecting human rights regardless of ethnicity, gender, age, and other aspects is an integral part of democracy and peace. The projects emphasize the active role of women in civil society and leadership as women tend to solve issues less.
